I get a ton of questions on My YouTube Channel regarding my camera setup. Those that have never seen stabilized POV footage are shocked and amazed. Like most people, I have never had the attention span to watch shaky POV videos. I am trying to change all of that, and breathe new life into the POV experience.

Here are a few of the products that I use on a daily basis to produce "watchable" POV content. If you are interested in capturing professional looking, chest POV footage, a gimbal is an absolute necessity. Image stabilization, in-camera just doesn't cut the mustard on the chest mount. Aside from losing 10% of the frame, the angle is never quite right as the riding position changes frequently. A gimbal fixes that.

I film everything in 4K 30 on my GoPro Hero7Black, and do all of my editing in iMovie.

If you have additional questions about my gear, please reach out. I have been fine tuning this setup over the last 4 years and I have found that this works best for what I do. It's overkill, but the end result is worth the effort in my opinion.

I have no affiliation with any of these camera companies. I have however used Amazon affiliate links in this post. This is a great way to support my efforts if you find this information valuable. It costs you nothing extra, but helps me continue to make inspiring content. Happy filming friends!

My Main Filming Rig

This is the basic setup that I have used to make every FollowCamFriday episode to date. The gimbal is the answer for the chest mount and while being harder to ride with, produces the most cinematic results.

My Vertical Head Setup

In addition to filming from my chest, I recently started filming everything in a vertical profile from my helmet. This makes for some really clean Instagram footage and looks amazing on the screen of your phone, when viewed vertically in full screen. Le'ts be honest, no one really wants to turn their phone...

My other cameras

These are the cameras I use when I am not filming with my GoPro's. The reason I prefer the Sony mirrorless is due to the size and ease of use. Both the a6600 and a6500 take amazing images, in addition to shooting 4K video. My Sony RX100 fits easily in my pocket and is perfect for run and gun photography.

Sony E Mount Lens Collection

This is my current lens quiver and covers most of the range I need. The newly released 15-55 2.8G Master is absolutely stunning.

35mm E-mount lens

10-18 E-mount lens

55-210 Kit Lens

My Drone

This new Skydio 2 is nothing short of amazing. For what I do, this thing is a game changer due to its ability to precisely track a subject and avoid obstacles. I sold my DJI Mavic.

My Lights

The best lights I have found so far come from Outbound Lighting. The beam pattern makes all of the difference. With one light on the bars and another on the head, there is nothing you can't get away with in the dark.

Accessories To Make Your Life Easier

The nuts and bolts that make things run smoothly. I am really hard on gear and having spares of everything keeps the content machine alive.

Storage

Back up everything , then, back it up again. I use a Samsung SSD for traveling and storing current projects. Everything is backed up in Lacie drives. I have had the best results with SanDisc SD cards over the years.
