Is blogging still a thing?

So there I was, drinking beer and looking at the internet. What ever happened to my blog..... I don't think people even realize that I race mountain bikes for a living. I think people know me as that guy who posts weekly POV videos on YouTube about riding on the edge of some scary cliff in the desert. I am a Vlogger now, do I really need a blog? Well, after a two-year hiatus, I just turned it back on because it made me smile. Let me know what you guys think. Times were simpler then. More projects, more problems. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

There are plenty of classic trails in Sedona, but I bet you haven't ridden, or even heard of this one. #followcamfriday with Alex Petitdemange
I have been fortunate to spend a bunch of time in Sedona over the years. Probably about 6 months total when I add it all up. I won't ever really get bored with the place, but sometimes it is nice to ride something completely different. Scheurman Mtn Trail doesn't feel much like Sedona at all. And that can be a good thing. Between the classic H trails, Hangover, Hiline, and the Hogs, I literally have 100 laps. While these are still my favorites, exploring new sections is always refreshing.

If I was a betting man, I would wager a guess that most have never heard of this trail, let alone have ridden this one. Scheurman has a completely different feel and character to what most people think of when Sedona comes to mind. Volcanic rock and tall grass make this very different to the normal red rock experience. It's like a different planet up there.

Alex and I were trying for last light on this one but the clouds had their way on this particular day. I actually like the moody look of the gray skies and yellow grass. Not everything needs to be a bluebird powder day. Riding is still fun, regardless of the cloud cover. While I always try and get the best footage possible for the people, I still ride for fun and would never stop a ride because the light is not perfect. That is not what it has ever been about for me. Riding first, we get what we get on the camera.

When Alex breaks out the red pants, you know he means business. Interestingly enough, these blend in normally in Sedona, but contrast the landscape nicely up here. I think the drone actually has an easier time following Alex with the bright colors.

I have been less inclined to wear gloves lately. I usually only wear them while filming so that I can wipe my camera lens on the fly, without stopping or breaking flow. My hands have been taking a beating, but I much prefer the feel of my grips and ride better without them. Gloves don't actually do anything for cactus besides get full of needles, so there isn't really that much of a point to wear them. If you ever go to New Zealand, they will make fun of you for wearing gloves, or knee pads for that matter. Turns out you actually don't need those things to have fun on a bicycle, but it sure does help when you fall down.  Don't fall down.

Scheurman eventually dumps onto Lime Kiln and rewards you with one of the roughest, most awkward rock sections in town. The absence of flow is where Alex Petitdemange really shines. Think of water flowing down a rocky stream bed. The path of least resistance is the recipe for success. Jump over the tall things and do not land on the sharp things. I really enjoy watching Alex make quick work of the roughest terrain possible. A surgeon at work.
