Is blogging still a thing?

So there I was, drinking beer and looking at the internet. What ever happened to my blog..... I don't think people even realize that I race mountain bikes for a living. I think people know me as that guy who posts weekly POV videos on YouTube about riding on the edge of some scary cliff in the desert. I am a Vlogger now, do I really need a blog? Well, after a two-year hiatus, I just turned it back on because it made me smile. Let me know what you guys think. Times were simpler then. More projects, more problems. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Cedar City Jank

#followcamfriday taming that Cedar City jank with James Weingarten.
Another week, another new trail system. Southern Utah is continuing to impress. A cornucopia of jank for our riding pleasure. James Weingarten and I filmed this on Thanksgiving weekend. We could have been engaging in gluttony like the rest of the world, but we instead decided to consume as much jank as possible. Hungry Hungry Hippo comes to mind.

Cedar City is another small Utah town, close to the interstate, in a relatively remote location, that may otherwise be overlooked as people flock to the more established riding areas like Moab or Saint George, or Vegas for that matter. I had driven past this place on numerous occasions with no intention of ever stopping, unless I needed gas or fast food, but clearly I have been missing the finer points.

The hills above town are littered with an amazing network of trails. I am happy to report that the current model of building sidewalks in the woods for us to ride our ten thousand dollar mountain bikes on has not been repeated here. This place is chunky. The rawness of the terrain has been well preserved here. We like that. We like that alot. Just as Richfield surprised us, Cedar City has some absolute gems to try and break parts off of your bicycle on. On Thanksgiving, we gave thanks for jank. We even had seconds. The look on James' face in the photo above says it all. "What the fuck did we just ride? That was rugged!"

Kudos to the builders again on this one. There is a subtle art to working with terrain, rather than against, and these guys have done an amazing job of making sense of the madness without losing any character. Basically, next-level rock organization practices. Love your work! DH casing tires would be I good call on a great deal of this. Again, we like that.

Why yes, that is a sea of boulders. Thank you for asking. I would imagine that this pile of toaster ovens was hard to organize, and unbelievably time consuming, but this is one of the most angry and interesting sections of trail I have ever had the pleasure of riding. I would also wager to say that many bikes have met their demise somewhere in this factory of jank. There are probably broken parts scattered among the rocks, but it was too hard to stop so we just kept on riding.

It sure is fun riding trails for the first time. When people try and give in-depth explanations of sections of trail, I basically block all of that information out and start reciting WuTang lyrics in my head. I really don't want to know what is coming and what to look out for. I prefer to figure all of that out on the fly. That is what is fun about mountain biking. That is why I get out of bed in the morning. Uncertainty is beautiful. Keep up the good work, Cedar City. We like you.

Are you running the One Up bars now? Or is it the same bar missing the stickers/sponsors?
