Is blogging still a thing?

So there I was, drinking beer and looking at the internet. What ever happened to my blog..... I don't think people even realize that I race mountain bikes for a living. I think people know me as that guy who posts weekly POV videos on YouTube about riding on the edge of some scary cliff in the desert. I am a Vlogger now, do I really need a blog? Well, after a two-year hiatus, I just turned it back on because it made me smile. Let me know what you guys think. Times were simpler then. More projects, more problems. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Crashing at 28mph. Sorry Tom....

#Followcamfriday episode 46, season 2. Broken bones and hospital visits... I can't believe it took this long. We are lucky.
Let me start by saying that I have much disdain for click-bait. My videos have always been about shredding trail at high rates of speed, and that is not going to change. In almost 2 years of filming weekly episodes, this is the worst crash I have witnessed. Now, I put a monkey, covering it's eyes, in my thumbnail... Click bait.
Picture
I could have used this as my thumbnail.... With a nice, clean, professional looking title, crafted in photoshop.... But, alas, I chose the monkey....
Picture
Why the monkey you ask? So, here's the thing. Doctor Park is probably the most classic descent in the state of Colorado. Filming it  with harsh mid-day light, just won't do it justice... Yeah, the trees were popping, but the shadows, and mainly the camera's inability to deal with huge contrast changes, would have kept me from posting this video. Not to be all "cinematic", but this trail deserves better. My fans deserve more. I can't post shit video..... I just can't.

Then Tom crashed. My focus changed.
Picture
I quit Strava. I race bikes for a living, not in an imaginary situation on my iPhone.  Strava is good for one thing.... Data. Tom's phone told him that he was traveling at 28.6mph when he hit this tree. He flew at least 20 feet past this blow-down. I nearly shit myself.
Picture
This was both Tom and Fred's first rip down Doctor Park. We took a bunch of photos in the aspens with Fred before the situation occured. Check out some of Fred's work HERE.
Picture
Tom broke 2 bones, 2 more than he had previously broken, up to this point in his cycling career. Just think of all the stupid shit we have gotten away with.... At the end of the day, Tom will heal, snow will fall, and he will be back for redemption in the spring. Never a dull moment.

Sorry Tom. #redemptiontour2018

Avoiding a dirt-nap on Bedframe

Picking up where we left off last week. #followcamfriday with the Free Radicals from Nelson BC on "Bedframe"
. Got rock slabs? Jank Tech? You betcha.
The chaos from Nelson continues. After riding Powerslave, this route was recommended to us as the most interesting way to the bottom. I lost track of vert but this has to be a solid 4500ft descent when combined with Powerslave.
Picture
Rock slabs for days. Its like Moab.... but with dirt between the rocks.... and steeper....and smoky. Fires have been burning nearby all summer. Black lung hitting hard.
Picture
So, what the fuck are these "Free Radical" characters all about? These boys live in a van and ride their bikes err day. Coffee comes first!  #lifegoals LEARN SOMETHING HERE
Keep up with the Free Rads 2017 tour, as they give free candy away to children.... or anyone.... mostly me.
Picture
Some people approach rock-rolls with caution. Mark gives less fucks than you.

Will always matches his Smith Forefront helmet to the ground cover. #fallstuff
Sorry for the excessive swearing. I blame Canada.

My favorite trail in Nelson, BC

Riding Powerslave with The Free Radicals in Nelson, BC. #FollowCamFriday Canadian stunt fest. Giver Skido in the thick smoke.
Someone once told me that Nelson has more trails per acre than anywhere else in the word. I have absolutely no idea if that is true, but what I do know is that I have barely scratched the surface. And, for every trail that is on a map, there are 5 that are not.... so..... I guess I need to go back.... for a month. Every year. Yeah, it's that good.
Picture
The Free Radicals are a crew of sorts. They live in a van and shred trail. Everyone should make this a goal, as  they are doing it right. Riding comes first, everything else matters less. Priorities in check.
Picture
Powerslave has a bit of everything. Deep woods, loam, skid steer chutes, rock, roots, and even some wonky stunts that remind you that you are in fact in Canada. Actually, the stunts are well built....but "mountain bikers ride on dirt" - Nathan Rennie

Color. Fall is here. My feed is about to get brighter. Bring it on.

Riding New Denver, British Columbia

#followcamfriday live and direct from smokey British Columbia, Canada. Join myself, Ryan Gardner and Will Cadham of The Free Radicals as we shred Sundowner to Choices.
Fresh off racing the Revelstoke 3 day Heli Enduro, we were on our way to Nelson. That race was amazing by the way, if you like helicopters and rad trails, that is.... This was the first heli enduro in North America and I really enjoyed myself. Put this one on your list, info www.facebook.com/revelstoke3day/HERE

New Denver is a town I had never heard of before this trip. As it was on the way to Nelson, which is famous for epic mountain biking, we deemed it worth a stop. We were rewarded with a 1000 meter descent that got gradually steeper as we got to the bottom.
Picture
Always ride sketchy metal skinnies when you have the chance. And oh yeah, don't fall left...
Picture
I suspect they named this one "Choices" after the multiple line options offered up. My favorite type of trail is a 20 foot wide corridor of options. This is a thinking man's trail.... Here, Will demonstrates proper #lovesbackwheel technique.
Picture
I used a ferry for the first time in my life on the drive to New Denver. Strange that I had never done that. Here is a photo of a boat. Boats float in water. Mind melted.
Picture
Hit the jump Willy. Stay tuned next week for shredding from Nelson.

Another amazing 5000ft downhill in Revelstoke!

Revelstoke delivering the goods once again! #followcamfriday Join the party for this 5000ft descent on Martha Creek.
32 minute uncensored version on Patreon- www.patreon.com/NateHills
This was filmed in July when I was in town for the TransBC, hence the snow. I am actually headed back there right now for another race in a few days, so the timing here is perfect. The descents are just bigger in Canada, and without the uphills in the middle, and without the stupid sustainiblity police ruining all the fun.... Currently looking for residency.
Picture
Nothing melts snow faster than Peter O's back tire.
Picture
These photos that accompany my weekly blog vlog are all GoPro screen grabs. I mean, its pretty hard to get good photos with my real camera when I am busy chasing these lunatics around in the woods. I shoot everything in 4K 30 and like the motion blur in low light, high speed conditions. Botsy in the green room....
Picture
Peter is always on the gas and a pleasure to chase around in the woods. Notice his film-apropriot attire.... Peter is pro. Be like Peter.
Picture
Just beating the rain here. It hasn't rained since..... Ended the ride as everyone should, dinner and margs at the Taco Club in Revy. Happy and drunk, until next week. We make party.
